Web Abstract
Brief description of the proposal
A therapeutic strategy is to develop bio-artificial skin substitute to improve the quality of life in those patients suffering from 1st or 2nd degree burn wounds or skin loss due to trauma. Initially its safety and efficacy will be evaluated on Wistar rat model and taken forward for Phase –I clinical trials on 30 patients at Trauma Centre of AIIMS, New Delhi. Scaffold can be fabricated in different size and dimension as needed .Depending on depth of the burn wound hydrogel based or electrospun based scaffold will be manipulated and applied. The proposed scaffold will become part of the skin will act as a skin substitute. It is envisaged that it will take 3-4 weeks to completely heal patients with burn wounds and will provide an alternative to autologous skin grafting as well as substitute to cadaveric skin grafting.
