Web Abstract
Considering the huge potential of coal reserves in India - most of which are having high ash with low heating values, and to mitigate SOx/NOx emissions, the dual fluidized bed gasification (DFBG) system offers an attractive option for utilization of inferior quality coals to obtain cleaner energy through IGCC operations. During gasification process in a single bed system, the coexistence of pyrolysis gas and char inhibits the char gasification reactions which necessitate to separate these reactions, thus forming the concept of DFBG technology. Additionally, the energy demand for the gasifier is met by combustion of residual char in the combustor. Our aim is to develop an indigenous technology of a pressurized DFBG system for high-ash Indian coals using steam as the oxidizer with a gas cleaning system for the raw syngas. Development of numerical model using CFD code (OpenFoam) and validation of the code will be undertaken with experimental data.
