Scope and Objectives
Improvement of pudam process, Processing of toxic seeds, serankottai and servalam, Preparation of Cirattai thailam, Sivanar vembu kuli thailam using kuzhi thaila karuvi, Preparation of Mayana thailam using mezhugu thial karuvi, Preparation of Anda thailam using kuppi puda karuvi, Improvement of Valuka yandra for Poorna chandthirodhyam process & Rasa chendooram, Modern distillation set up for salt based thiravagams and jeyaneer in lieu of traditional mud apparatus, thirivaga vaalai yanthira.
Deliverables
Replacement of pudam by a unique anaerobic all side heating furnace, Replacement of traditional kuzhi thaila karuvi (used to prepare ciratai thailam, siv kuzhi thailam) with the modern simple device.

Videos
Scientific Output
Temperature, pressure and heating rate has been obtained related to the pudam process. To replace the cowdung cake fuel we have explored other fuels like LPG, Kerosene, Electrical furnace, etc. Grinding unit have been obtained and possibilities to replicate the existing Kalvam process is explored.

Results and outcome till date
Experiment were conducted at SKM industry inside the pit for the medicine Padigara Parpam to find out the heating and cooling rates during the process. The data collected

Societal benefit and impact anticipated
India is well known for its traditional medicines including siddha, aurveda and unani. However, in the present day, these traditional medicines are losing their importance due to many reasons. One of the major reasons is the lack of scientific understanding of the traditional method of manufacturing. Unlike the modern allopathy system of medicine, the siddha medicines were not evolved with the support of various expert people from different domain including, pharmacy, medicine, and engineering. By designing and manufacturing appropriate processing devices with required instrumentation and by employing the latest engineering manufacturing practices in medicine preparation, high quality medicine can be prepared at mass production level. The standardized manufacturing method helps to prepare standardize the medicine quality and increase the reliability of medicine.
Next steps
To perform the same experiments as done in pudam process with the known parameters like temperature and heating rate in the Furnace. Replacement of Kalvam process with the grinding unit knowing the parameters like velocity, contact area and thereby development of medicine through it. Development of crushing unit for Cherratai Thailam Process. Understanding the other different traditional medicine processes.
